‘美女与野兽’式题材的经典之作！Willis H. O'Brien 监督的视觉特效，至今看来仍相当传神了不起！片尾金刚环抱帝国大厦一景已成为文化图腾。Max Steiner 的配乐十分出色。同年趁胜追击拍了《The Son of Kong》，但口碑不好。本片在1976年又被重拍一次。
