1995年抱着玩的心态(当时唱歌只是兴趣)，在英国建筑系读到二年级就趁暑假回香港参加<香港无线电视台>举办的《第十四届新秀歌唱大赛》(香港最最重要的新秀歌唱大赛，99年开始停办。当年大量实力派歌手由此途径出道)，一路过关斩将，以大大多于第二名杨千桦的分数优势一举夺得金奖，也夺得“自我风格演绎奖”，获得奖金十万港元及华星唱片公司的一纸合约。
