大多數人第一次聽到《When you wish upon a star》這首歌都是在迪斯尼動畫開頭，伴隨著美麗的星空，絢爛的煙火，神秘夢幻，屹立在廣袤大地上的城堡，聽著這激動人心的管弦樂改編版，進入夢幻世界。

歌曲來源於迪士尼的第二部動畫長片《匹諾曹》的中匹諾曹的爸爸向星星許願，希望能讓他有個兒子時的插曲。

《When you wish upon a star》這首歌曲在美國具有非常高的知名度，路易斯阿姆斯壯曾經用其渾厚的嗓音演繹此曲。自1997年以後迪士尼所有電影均用此曲和睡美人的城堡作為片頭，意在表達只要你有夢想即可實現的願景。

其中歌曲出處，《木偶奇遇記》描繪了一個小木偶的故事，小木偶被造他的木匠蓋比特取名為「匹諾曹」，同時又被善良的仙女賦予了新生命。但是，他必須通過勇氣、忠心以及誠實的考驗，才能成為一個真正的男孩子。
