黑白片，當時曾轟動一時，白人女主角貌如天仙，連金剛亦忍不住愛慕，為了保護她不惜與其他猛獸搏鬥。金剛最後遭白人的先進武器，如今看來是幾架古董飛機射殺，迎合了當年白人必勝的邏輯。
『美女與野獸』式題材的經典之作！Willis H. O'Brien 監督的視覺特效，至今看來仍相當傳神了不起！片尾金剛環抱帝國大廈一景已成為文化圖騰。Max Steiner 的配樂十分出色。同年趁勝追擊拍了《The Son of Kong》，但口碑不好。本片在1976年又被重拍一次。
