劇情簡介：
22歲的瑪利亞是一個薩爾茲堡的修女院里的志願修女，但是，她活潑好動和熱愛自然的性格卻總是讓她在修道院里惹麻煩。修女院里的阿比斯院長覺得她這樣的活潑的性格不適合僧侶生活，於是，當她接到馮·特拉普上校家尋求看護的請求，她決定讓瑪利亞去，也藉此讓她探索出真正的生活目的。
瑪利亞到達馮·特拉普家，發現他是一個有七個孩子的鰥夫，長期的海軍生活和亡妻的悲傷使他對待孩子像管教士兵一樣嚴格，很快，瑪利亞就明白了以前那些看護離開的原因，原來是孩子們得不到父親的關愛，總是用作弄看護來吸引父親的注意。
上校要求瑪利亞也像他一樣嚴格，但是瑪利亞沒有聽從，而是用她天生的溫柔和善良贏得了孩子們的友好。趁上校不在的時候，她用窗簾給每個孩子縫制了游戲服裝，帶領他們到市場遊玩，在美麗的阿爾卑斯山上野餐，還教會了他們唱歌。孩子們原有的拘禁和憂郁漸漸地被音樂和笑聲代替了。
不就上校回家了，看見孩子們的轉變非常高興。孩子們更是表演起他們的拿手好戲，逗得上校開心。瑪利亞以及孩子們一起唱起了動聽的歌。

女教師：I'm leaving，Captain.I have to go.
將軍：（驚訝狀）Why?What'the matter?
女教師：（搖頭苦笑）I have no idea with the children.They are too naughty.I'm sorry.I have to go.Bye!
(將軍進門，看見孩子們正在吵鬧，管家毫無辦法。馬上臉色一變，哨聲一響，孩子們馬上停止吵鬧，乖乖地列隊，等待父親的訓斥）
將軍：（吹哨）Attention!
孩子們：one! two!
將軍：At ease! (臉色凝重狀）what are you doing just now?The teacher has gone!
孩子們：Sorry!Dad!
大女兒：We don't like her.
其他孩子：Yes!Dad,we don't like her at all.
將軍：Shut up!Can't you be quiet?Get our of here,go back to your room and don't talk any more.Attention!Turn left!Go!
(孩子們下，管家上前建議將軍另請教師）
管家：Captain!We should invite another teacher.
將軍：Yes!We should.You do that for me.
管家：Yes!Sir!
(管家下，將軍搖頭，嘆氣，下)
場景二：（瑪利亞提著行李，拿著吉他，邊唱歌，邊蹦跳著來到將軍家門，敲門。管家開門，將軍要求瑪利亞像他那樣嚴格要求孩子。孩子們一開始不喜歡瑪利亞，並作弄瑪利亞）
瑪利亞：(提著行李，作失魂狀，敲門）Hello!Any body home?
管家：(管家出場，開門，問）Yes! I'm coming!Who's that?
瑪利亞：My name is Maria.Is this Captain's home?I'm the new teacher here.
管家：Ok! Nice to meet you.Come in,please.
瑪利亞：Nice to meet you too!Thanks a lot!
管家：Captain!The new teacher is here.
將軍：(出場，神情嚴肅地看著瑪利亞)
管家：（向將軍介紹）Captain!This is Maria.Oue new teacher.And this is Captain.
將軍：Ok! Maria.As you know I'm a Captain.I hope you will be strict to the children as I do.This is the signal.(吹哨，孩子們列隊出來）Boys and girls!This is your new teacher.You should obbey the teacher's order.Understand?Now introce yourself to the teacher.

《哈利波特》電影中小哈利追問巨無霸海格（Hagrid）自己的身世。海格答道：A few years ago there was one wizard who went as bad as you can go. And his name was V...His name was v...（幾年前，有一個巫師走火入魔，邪得無以復加。他的名字是伏……。他的名字是伏……。）
註：海格本欲說出殺哈利波特父母的大仇家，但沒有膽量，於是期期艾艾，欲語還休。大家必須記得，省略號(ellipsis marks/suspension points)是漢六英三，即中文用六點，英文用三點。
此時小哈利知道巨無霸不敢說出大魔頭的名字，於是提議說：Maybe if you wrote it down.（也許你就寫下來吧。）
註：巨無霸沒有寫，哈利卻用Write的過去式。那是慣用法(idiomatic expression)，亦委婉語(euphemi *** )。
女作家羅琳(J K Rowling)寫的《哈利波特》小說中，巨無霸海格受的教育不多，因而談吐豪邁，不拘小節，說的往往不是正規英語。家長指導小孩子讀英文原著時宜加留意。
茲舉一例，引自第一集八十一頁Bloom *** ury版本：Told yeh,didn't I? Told yeh you was famous.
按方法you 字後決不能用was，過去式得用were。他把you說成yeh是發音不準。 J K Rowling這樣寫是為了凸顯海格讀書不多。
哈利波特追問兇手是誰時，海格說：No, I can't spell it.（不行，我不懂拼那字。）
羅琳塑造巨無霸海格不但語文蹩腳，拼字也不懂。他只好接著說：Alright, Voldemort.（好，我講，伏地魔!)
哈利波特聽見真凶名字，怔了一下。哈利： Voldemort？（伏地魔?)
原來殺害哈利波特父母的兇手是魔界一流高手伏地魔Voldemort!
心地善良的巨無霸海格恐大魔頭聽見哈利波特尖聲叫出他的名字，立刻勸小哈利別作聲： Sh, Sh.（噓。）
註：Sh是hush的縮略語，示意對方不要張聲高叫。
電影畢竟和小說不一樣，多了影像聲響，觀眾可以從演員的造型與談吐體會角色。
編劇導演塑造巨無霸海格的角色十分成功。我們一看就知道他雖然性格粗獷、讀書不多，但心地善良、不拘小節。
且聽海格怎樣告訴哈利波特(Harry Potter)伏地魔(Voldemort)殺他父母的原委。
海格：It was dark times, Harry, dark times.（那是黑暗時期，哈利，黑暗時期。）
Voldemort started a garrison force. Brought' em over to the dark side.（伏地魔成立了在要塞駐防的部隊，把隊員帶到黑暗的一邊。）Anyone that stood up to him ended up dead.（反抗他的人結果都喪命。）
註：同學們宜觀摩句中片語動詞(phrasal verbs)stand up to與end up的用法，翻詞典查其他釋義，然後造兩三個句子，掌握一詞多義(polysemous)的用法。
